Exfoliants and scrubs
Learn more about exfoliants and scrubs
Exfoliants and scrubs are skin care products used to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. The purpose of exfoliating the skin is to promote a healthy, radiant complexion by ridding the top layer of the skin of dead cells, leaving the skin softer, smoother and brighter.
There are several types of exfoliants and scrubs available, including chemical exfoliants, physical scrubs, enzymatic exfoliants, and microdermabrasion scrubs.
Chemical exfoliants contain acids such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and lactic acid, which help dissolve dead skin cells and exfoliate the skin. Physical scrubs contain small particles such as sugar, salt, ground coffee beans or apricot kernels, which are used to exfoliate the skin. Enzymatic exfoliants contain enzymes such as papain and bromelain, which help remove dead skin cells and exfoliate the skin. Microdermabrasion scrubs contain fine granules that are used to exfoliate the skin and improve skin texture.
It is important to choose an exfoliant or scrub that is suitable for your skin type and sensitivity. Overuse or using products that are too strong can damage and irritate the skin, so it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and moisturize and protect the skin from the sun after exfoliating.
